I'd like to particularly encourage you to participate in some of the events coming up in the next two weeks.
- Noon Forums. Most Wednesdays this semester, there will be a Noon Forum sponsored by Faculty Senate and the OIS. On Wednesday, February 3, the Forum will feature Professor Ken Blanchard and Corey Heidelberger. Forum title: The Battle of the Bloggers. On Wednesday, February 10, Professor Sara Schmidt will be talking about how to handle a bad hair day! The forums are held in the Williams Library rotunda.
- NSU play (Gideon's Knot). Performances are Wednesday through Saturday (February 10-14 at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Centennial Rooms. Shows are free with your NSU ID.
- Faculty recitals/senior recitals. Professor Audrey Miller will give a recital at 7:30 on Thursday, February 4. Professors Darci Bultema and Marla Fogderud will be giving a joint recital on Thursday, February 18. There are also quite a few senior recitals this spring, usually at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. The recitals are generally held in Krikac auditorium.
- Student clubs. I will also give you credit for attending a meeting of any student organization you haven't been involved with before. For instance, Tae Kwon Do meets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in Dakotah Hall gym. Plenty of other opportunities for involvement on campus!
Today I attended the noon forum: "Battle of the Bloggers". I found it very interesting how Cory and Dr. Blanchard began their blogging careers and their input on why blogging is important. I have followed Cory Heidelberger's blog for over a year now and was excited to see him on campus.
ReplyDeleteI attended Gideon's Knot on February 10th the opening night. The plays setting was the most memorable because it resembled a school classroom. It was so life like that I thought I went back in time to when I was in fifth grade (scary). There were two actors in the entire show but they did an amazing job which made it enjoyable. They kept me on my feet the entire time because the play was so up and down emotionally. It was worthwhile to go to because it opened my eyes to hard topics that are never talked about in school like suicide, sexual orientation, and bullying.
ReplyDeleteI attended Kaitlin Buchholz's Senior Recital on February 28th. I really enjoyed her recital and what I found to be the most enjoyable was the composition Toothbrush Time by William Bolcom which featured a soprano and the piano as an accompaniment. It was different from the other compositions that were preformed and was very humorous and entertaining to listen to.
ReplyDeleteI attended the law school presentation held by Nicholas Mclerney of USD held on March 2. I think the most interesting thing I heard throughout the presentation was simply what Law School had to offer. I have always been somewhat interested in law and becoming a lawyer but wasn't sure if that was really the path I wanted to take. Mr. Mclerney noted that just because I attend law school doesn't mean that I am tied down into going into law. There are many different paths someone can take once they receive their JD and it really opened me up to a lot of different career opportunities.

DeleteThis past week and a half I attended the national speech and debate tournament in Lexington Kentucky it was a blast and a team bonding adventure I learned a lot and got to see one of our debate teams take home a second place trophy in the nation I would recommend anyone and everyone to join the speech and debate team!
ReplyDeleteI went to jet lagged. If I may say, it was one of the best events I have ever been to at northern. Andy solo, Taylor voice, and everyone else were perfect. I also liked the clarinet Dr. miller player. I also attended an event hosted by the south Korean organization. I enjoyed their dance moves and other events they displayed.
